Protective actions — from source
A Flood Warning means water levels above flood stage are imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along rivers and streams in the warned area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. These forecasts are based on observed precipitation as well as forecast precipitation 24 hours into the future. Changes to the rainfall forecast, or any additional rainfall after 24 hours, may cause changes to these river forecasts. Additional information is available at www.weather.gov. The next statement will be issued by this evening.
What to do during a flood warning
Flooding is occurring or imminent. This is a slower-onset event than flash flooding but equally dangerous on the roads.
- Move valuables and people to higher floors or higher ground.
- Never drive through flooded roads. Even familiar routes become deadly when water depth cannot be judged.
- Disconnect utilities at the main switches if flooding reaches the building.
- Do not touch electrical equipment if wet or standing in water.
- Listen to local officials for evacuation orders and follow posted detours.
General guidance based on NWS, FEMA, and Ready.gov. Always follow instructions from local officials, which take precedence.
