What to do during a hurricane warning
Hurricane-force winds (74+ mph) are expected within 36 hours.
- Complete evacuation if you are in an evacuation zone. Storm surge is the deadliest hazard.
- Shelter in an interior room on the lowest secure floor, away from windows.
- Fill bathtubs and containers with water; charge phones and devices.
- Have at least three days of food, water, and medication on hand.
- Do not go outside during the calm eye; the winds return suddenly from the opposite direction.
General guidance based on NWS, FEMA, and Ready.gov. Always follow instructions from local officials.
