What to do during a red flag warning
Critical fire weather: dry fuels, low humidity, and strong winds will allow any fire to spread rapidly.
- No outdoor burning of any kind. Even small sparks (yard equipment, chains dragging from trailers, cigarettes) can start a major fire.
- Review your evacuation plan and have a go-bag ready if you are in a fire-prone area.
- Know multiple routes out of your neighborhood; primary roads can close.
- Clear combustible debris (dry leaves, pine needles) from at least 30 feet around your home.
- Report any smoke or fire immediately; early detection saves lives and structures.
General guidance based on NWS, FEMA, and Ready.gov. Always follow instructions from local officials.
