Protective actions — from source
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Additional information is available at www.weather.gov/marquette. The next statement will be issued late tonight at 200 AM EDT.
What to do during a flood warning
Flooding is occurring or imminent. This is a slower-onset event than flash flooding but equally dangerous on the roads.
- Move valuables and people to higher floors or higher ground.
- Never drive through flooded roads. Even familiar routes become deadly when water depth cannot be judged.
- Disconnect utilities at the main switches if flooding reaches the building.
- Do not touch electrical equipment if wet or standing in water.
- Listen to local officials for evacuation orders and follow posted detours.
General guidance based on NWS, FEMA, and Ready.gov. Always follow instructions from local officials, which take precedence.
